Our projects are supported by dedicated SCWH Research Fellows and support staff across our member institutions, providing on the ground preparatory research and coordination to bring together our ideas into fully developed funding applications.
Delivery of the Centre’s research portfolio is generously supported with infrastructural support funding from the Colt Foundation.
Dr Stuart Bradwel
Research Fellow

Dr Bradwel is originally from Newcastle upon Tyne and has spent much of his career in public health, following a PhD in the history of medicine. He has published a book on the history of insulin therapy, Insulin: A Hundred-Year History, which also examines current controversies around healthcare access. He currently works on the qualitative components of several mixed-methods projects at University of ABerdeen’s Epidemiology Group, and his work with the Centre focusses on supporting people with long-term conditions to remain in employment.
Ms Mia Koponen
Research Associate

Ms Koponen began her academic career in Aberdeen as a neuroscience undergraduate before moving into pharmacology and pharmacoepidemiology, with a long-standing focus on pain research. She is currently finalising her PhD on the pharmacoepidemiology of neuropathic pain and sits on the steering committee of the Scottish Pain Research Community. She contributes her qualitative analysis experience across our research portfolio.
Ms Johanna McQuarrie
Research Fellow (Work, Employment and Organisation)

Ms McQuarrie’s work include projects spanning job quality, skill utilisation, employee relations, and equality at work. Her current research explores the links between fair work and innovation in the workplace, examining the choices, capacities, and constraints that policy-makers and firms face in pursuit of mutual gains. She has contributed to research on fair work in the third sector, epilepsy and employment, and management practices and employee engagement, among other projects with Scottish Government and other partners. She has been with the Scottish Centre for Employment Research since 2006.
Dr LaKrista Morton
Research Fellow

Dr Morton is an applied health scientist with a background in psychology and epidemiology. She works across an interdisciplinary programme of health services research exploring how services for people with musculoskeletal conditions are organised and delivered in routine practice. Across this portfolio of research, she leads on the delivery of mixed-methods studies, integrating qualitative and quantitative findings to address key themes including health inequalities and work participation.
Dr Thomas Walsh
Advanced Research Fellow

Dr Walsh is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Economics at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. Thomas received his PhD in Economics from the European University Institute in May 2023. He is an applied macroeconomist and his main research interest focusses on topics in labour market policy and firm dynamics.
Mr Stuart Anderson
Centre Manager
University of Aberdeen
Mr Anderson has supported the delivery of a range of studies across the University of Aberdeen Epidemiology Group since 2019. Since March 2022 he has been Centre Manager of the MRC/Arthritis UK Centre for Musculoskeletal Health and Work (CMHW), a cross-institutional collaboration researching how people can be better supported in work, or to return to work, with a musculoskeletal condition. He also coordinates the Epidemiology Group's Patient and Public Involvement activites.
